Foley began thinking of writing children’s books. After his 3-year-old granddaughter helped with a minor sink plumbing project. He wrote his first book Tillie and P-Trap the Plumber based on the experience and published it through Createspace.

In 2022 Patrick and his co-author Ruth Hargiss published a new storybook The Moon is Following Us. Based on their common childhood experiences riding in the car at night watching and playing with the Moon from the backseat of the family car.
